Position Overview

This faculty teaches musical theatre courses in a professionally focused curriculum for NWSA High School magnet and Bachelor of Fine Arts conservatory college degree programs. Additionally, this faculty member serves as the music director and conductor for two mainstage musical productions each academic year.

This is a full-time Faculty (FAC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.

What you will be doing
  • Teaches courses in music theory, vocal ensemble, musical theatre auditioning and repertoire, history of musical theatre, and co-teaching musical theatre workshop and BFA senior showcase.
  • Serves as an accompanist/pianist for classes, productions, juries, showcases, and other events connected to the musical theatre curriculum.
  • Participates in department meetings and all other department, division, campus and college committees as assigned.
  • Advises and recruits perspective students.
  • Evaluates student juries, performances, and attend student conferences as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed
  • Master's Degree in Music; or Master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Music.
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Professional theatre experience as a music director/conductor and accompanist.
  • Excellent sight-reading skills.
  • Three years minimum teaching experience in a college and or university setting.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate juries, advisement, recruitment, performances and other departmental and school activities
  • Demonstrate ability to interact effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Doctorate stipend is awarded in addition to higher base salary, if degree awarded prior to start date
  • Start date for this Faculty position is anticipated to begin on or before the start of the 2027 Spring Semester
Preferences
  • Advanced skills as a pianist, arranger, and musical director.
  • A vast knowledge of traditional and contemporary musicals as well as pop/rock/country/R&B music.
  • Is comfortable with new technology and current business trends.
  • Experience working with orchestral reduction and Mainstage keyboard programming.
  • Has a significant connection to the theatre industry.
Additional Requirements

The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
