Role Overview

As a Genetic Counseling Assistant, you will support the genetic counseling program by coordinating patient care workflows, managing documentation, and facilitating communication between patients, providers, and external partners.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, a proactive problem solver, and a patient-focused individual with a strong interest in genetics, a commitment to continuous learning, and a desire to grow alongside a supportive and mission-driven team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling and confirming patient appointments and managing referrals
  • Collect relevant personal and family history information from patient to construct family tree
  • Obtaining medical records and required documentation
  • Assisting patients with follow-up and general inquiries
  • Entering and maintaining patient data in tracking systems and databases
  • Uploading and managing documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Maintaining and monitoring departmental trackers and databases
  • Coordinating communication between genetic counselors, clinicians, and patients
  • Liaising with commercial laboratories regarding specimen issues, records, and follow-up needs
  • Supporting overall clinic workflow and patient experience

About BayCare Genetic Counseling Services

BayCare's Genetic Counseling team provides patients with personalized risk assessment, coordination of genetic testing, and interpretation of results to help identify inherited health conditions. Working alongside genetic counselors and clinical specialists, the Genetic Counseling Assistant plays an important role in supporting patients throughout their care journey and ensuring seamless coordination of services.

Qualifications
Education

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree (Science preferred)
Experience

Required:

  • One (1) year of related experience (in lieu of Bachelor's degree)

Preferred:

  • One (1) year of healthcare or medical-related experience

Additional Requirement:

  • Understanding of medical terminology
