The Patient Safety Specialist, under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer at University South Florida Tampa General Physicians (USFTGP), acts as an organizational resource to assist in the support of patient safety programs within Infection Control, Risk Management and Medication Safety. Works directly with USFTGP's Quality Department to assist in the optimization of infection prevention practices, medication safety and staff adherence for compliance with established USFTGP policies and procedures and investigates safety reports. Gathers data detailing patient related errors and conducts analyses for management and detailing the cause of error. Is qualified to facilitate process improvement when needed.

- Partners with clinical leadership in Infection Control, Risk Management and Medication Safety to identify and analyze various risks (e.g. safety reports in RL, employee injuries, near miss reports, patient complaints)
- Develop risk management controls and contingency plans
- Communicate recommendations to management
- Responsible for independently meeting productivity expectations
- Possess proficiency in behavioral interviewing to use active listening skills and verbal persuasiveness to easily understand the concerns of the patients and TMs, influence their attitudes and explain organizational polices /safety practices in an accessible way to reduce resistance
- Able to function autonomously while keeping team members and leaders informed.
- Able to work remotely in a professional environment free of distractions and available for in person meetings as needed.
- Possess strong writing, interpersonal communications and organizational skills.
- Possess experience with Epic, RL, Excel.
- Act as a problem-solver with good communication skills and work effectively with multiple stakeholders including patients, members of the care team, and payors.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Florida Department of Health Nursing License
- Ambulatory Care Nursing/Care Coordination & Transition/ Management Cert/ Telehealth Nursing Cert/ or Case Management Cert
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety
- Background in patient safety, quality, infection prevention, risk management, regulatory, clinical accreditation, organizational integrity, and/or health care compliance required. Understanding of various legal aspects related to risk, compliance, and healthcare regulations
- Formal training in Patient Safety, LEAN, Six Sigma Green Belt, or APIC/CDC training - Preferred
